Utku Demir is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University, working at the Genesys Lab under the direction of Kaushik Chowdhury. He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester, working with Wendi Heinzelman, in 2020. Prior to his Ph.D. degree, he received his Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester in 2017. He had received another Master of Science degree in electrical and electronics engineering in 2014 from Koc University, Istanbul, where he worked with Sinem Coleri. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Koc University, Istanbul, in 2012. Prior to joining the Genesys Lab, he worked with Deniz Erdogmus at Northeastern University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and with Cristiano Tapparello at the University of Rochester as a Postdoctoral Associate.


Utku’s current research interests lie in the areas of wireless communications, mobile ad hoc networking, signal processing, UWB communications, machine learning-based next-generation communication systems, digital twins in wireless systems, and software-defined radios.
